Some Visual Development

Here are some basic pre-vis drawings I have for my project so far. I'm still deciding of the look of my alien - any thoughts?

I have some basic idea of what the spaceship and the planet will look sort-of look like. Any suggestions will help. I will upload the astronaut drawings sometime soon.

  1. Ooh- I love the burnt ashy quality of the orange background. It feels surreal and desert-like.

I like that you are playing with the different expressions of the alien. It looks good!

  2. Mars! These are looking good Sean! We already spoke about the alien. I'm curious to see what you do with the ship design, is that the final look or a rough? I like the "pod" feel to it.

  3. Thanks for the input! The ship is a rough design, but I'm open to make any additional changes. I kinda like the pod feel to it - I think making it an enormous spaceship for just one astronaut wouldn't me reasonable. But that's just me.

For the alien, I'm leaning towards 'it' having a curved nose, snake-like eyes, and a snake-like tail. Its pupils can become larger or more baby-like (similar to Toothless in How to Train Your Dragon). Is gray good?

  4. My favorite alien is the one in the middle-left vertical column. I like that the face has a point, but a rounded point. One thing you could do with the eyes is have them 'dilate' from round to 'snake', depending on the alien's mood.

Ship looks cool. Is the door supposed to be on the left or right side?

  5. That alien is really adorable. The white eye designs are cuter and more expressive, but they don't say "I'M AN ALIEN" like the green eyes. Transforming pupils sounds like a good idea.

The red backgrounds are super cool and dramatic...can't wait to see more!
