Hey Guys!
So here are some images for my senior thesis. As you may notice, the planet itself is very barren and desert-like with a few rocks spotted on the landscape. At this point, I'm trying to decide whether to go for a 'mars' look or something completely different. Possible purple ground and pink rocks? Something crazy right? I'll upload images of my characters as well soon. Enjoy!
I like the look. It is very other-worldly.

I really like the colors you chose to use. The sky looks great and it looks like he is on a foreign planet. And the shadows on the rocks are good too. You could definitely try some more color combinations, just to have more choices.
ReplyDeleteAre your aliens going to have glowing blood or eyes? If so, maybe greens, purples, and blues for the planet might work pretty well. It seems like you can sort of go for a desert feel or a wacky unidentified shrubbery look. With the "unidentified shrubbery look" I would just say to be careful that it doesn't make the planet look likes its made up of machines...unless you want it to :)
Great stuff!
Great paintings Sean! I like how vast and alone it feels in the empty one. And then when you add the ship it really makes the ship pop/stand out...which is a nice effect. If you wanted to push it more, in your rendering, you could push those whites some more on the ship and it would stand out even further.
ReplyDeleteLooking great!
I agree with Jesse on how vast it feels. You really captured simultaneously the beauty and terror of space, haha. I feel almost like I'm in Star Trek. The smallness and placement of the sun also lends itself really well to this look.
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteI think changing the color to something less Mars-ish might be a good idea, since that would imply that the planet is even farther away from Earth, and therefore even more 'alien'. Purple would be a good choice, since we don't have a lot of naturally-occurring purple here, or really anywhere in our solar system. If it were up to me, I'd pick a purple closer to blue than to red, since that would be a lot easier on your audience's eyes.
Or, if you take the red you already have, and tweak it so it's more pinkish, that might look nice, too.
Thanks for input guys!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of you in that I will probably add more purple and pink to the planet.
As Careen said, it will look more alien and it will fit the characters quite nicely. I'll probably go ahead and make the atmosphere more pinkish and the rocks varying colors.
With regards to Jesse's comment, I will probably make the astronaut and his ship contrast and stand out more amongst the landscape. It will really add to the division between the two.
Thank you all for the suggestions!
