Spaceman Model + Animatic Update

Hey guys!

So I spent some of this week creating a body for my spaceman and here it is! It does need a bit more tweaking here and there but it's pretty much done. Now it's time to model the alien! That should be done by the end of this week as well. So much to do and so little time...

Once I'm finished with the animatic, I'll post that here as well. Which will most likely be by tomorrow.

Enjoy!

  1. Make sure your rig is versatile enough for your spaceman to be expressive. The acting in the CG film we watched on Tuesday was limited by the rig. Will you be able to avoid that?

  2. Can't wait to see the alien Sean!

Keep up the great work :)

  3. Actually, I think the acting in the CG film you watched on Tuesday was limited by the ability of the animator, not the rig- seeing as how the rig was created by Thomas and designed based off of a setup designed by a Lead TD at Dreamworks.

All the same, Sean, the rig I'd be building you would be very similar to the rig I used in my thesis. I know things get misinterpreted when they're written and not spoken- but I mean this with utter sincerity when I say that there would be no hard feelings if you would rather do it yourself or have someone else do it. The month you've scheduled for rigging is a generous enough time frame that I think you could build a rig from scratch and I could point you to some great websites/tutorials if you'd rather go that route. If not, my current offer still stands. :)

Best of luck- senior year is killer!

  4. Thanks for all the input guys!

Joe, thank you for the suggestion! As Lisa said, I think the rig won't be a problem. But it's up to the creative talents of the animator to make it look good.

Lisa, thank you again for doing this. I would love to build my own rig, but do not have enough confidence in my rigging abilities to do so. Plus, time is running short and the semester will soon be over. I'm afraid I might spend too much valuable time trying to rig rather than animating my characters.

I loved the look, style, and character animation in your film and all the senior films. I'll do my best to reach that same level. Once again, I greatly appreciate your offer and I'll send over my rig beginning next week!
